Howlong Community Progress Association Inc.

Featured in the Howlong Grapevine June 2021

WOW!! 75 community members attended the first public meeting chaired by Cr David Longley, to launch Howlong’s Progress Association. Feedback has been positive, and the community is to be congratulated for coming along to share their ideas. Background was given on what the working group had achieved to date, plus a comprehensive overview of how the Association was formed, and how it will benefit the community was clearly explained. Special thanks to [Federation Shire Council] GM Adrian Butler, Mayor Pat Bourke and Deputy Mayor Shaun Whitechurch who spoke in favour of Howlong having an incorporated Progress Association, and to Cr Norman Wales for his presence. Our not-for-profit Association is a separate entity and not affiliated with Council, however we were assured that Council will strongly support our endeavours as we move forward with projects.

Some great ideas were presented for consideration:- Hawkins St beautification; tree planting; Memorial Park & other Reserve potential; wetlands; parking issues; heavy vehicle by-pass; handicap parking; Arts Centre; permanent ambulance; permanent police; under-utilised river frontage; no safe kayak launch ramps; updated maps of the anabranch; river walking tracks to be cleared and upgraded; historical map walking tour; master plan for Memorial Park; bike & footpath to Memorial Park; RV friendly parking for tourists.

9 Committee candidates were proclaimed by a public show of hands and the following members will meet next week to formulate a strategic plan for moving forward. In alphabetical order- Cheryl Cook; Damien Ryan; John Skinner; Phil Gibbins; Robyn Pargeter-Roland; Sheryl Pitman; Stewart Sizer; Sue Gibbins and Sue Wearne.

This Committee will run through until the inaugural AGM later this year, when all positions will be declared vacant.

Generous donations last night raised $205.00 – thank you community!!

Welcome to the
Howlong Community Progress Association

We welcome you to share your ideas and vision for Howlong’s future needs - just click on the Contact tab to submit your thoughts or suggestions to our email.  Your feedback will be considered at a future committee meeting, and our aim is to ensure collaborative community input.

Having a direct conduit to Federation Council gives us leverage to put forward projects where we need its support.  The diverse skills of our committee members gives us the ability to liaise closely with our local government, and when necessary lobby our state or federal governments.

Seeking grant funds is always at the forefront of being able to complete projects that benefit our community, and this will be an ongoing pursuit for the association's committee.
