Sadly, the new year has started off with ongoing health disruptions, however we all hold hope for a smoother one than 2021. Our committee takes this opportunity to wish our members a safe, healthy and prosperous 2022 where we hope to see fulfillment of projects already planned. Due to time constraints in December the committee was unable to meet, but we had our first January Zoom meeting on Tuesday 11th and now provide the following update: -

➢ CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY – Sunday 6th March, 2022

Organisation for Howlong’s clean-up day is well under way with the backing of Federation Council. The committee is seeking support from the community to be involved in cleaning up the entry roads into town as well as Memorial Park.

  1. We urgently seek an “Events Co-Ordinator” that could help the committee drive this event.

  2. We need 30+ volunteer participants to help with the clean-up.

  3. A BBQ lunch will be provided on conclusion.

MEETING FOR VOLUNTEERS: Tuesday 1st Feb - 7.30pm at the Golf Resort.

CONTACT: Stuart Sizer 0427 138 667 if attending

➢ HOWLONG HAS TALENT – Sunday March 20th , 2022.

The Performing Arts sub-committee has been busy delivering posters to nearby towns, writing articles for media, and has contacted local schools. Entries are open for children through to adults, and we encourage anyone with amateur talent to get involved. Judges have been confirmed and prize money is offered, so let’s get behind this fun initiative and get our local talent on the stage! Contact howlonghastalent@gmail.com or 0439 649 492 (Coleen Bell).

➢ CEMETERY TOILET

Enquiries underway with Federation Council has determined a septic system will be the best option, and further planning will continue to determine project costs, maintenance etc. We are also pleased that initial research shows positive news for grant funding eligibility through Albury Wodonga Connected Communities. To apply for a grant the project needs to be ‘shovel ready’ so there is still much work to do before you will see the end result.

➢ FIRST REPONSDER SERVICE

Due to the festive holidays we have been unable to secure a public meeting date with Ambulance NSW. Discussions are continuing and we will advise members as soon as we know more.

➢ ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Due to the many restrictions and spread of covid infections, we have obtained approval from the Department of Fair Trading to postpone the AGM until after the financial year 30 June 2022. We trust the community understands and supports this decision.

Welcome to the
Howlong Community Progress Association

We welcome you to share your ideas and vision for Howlong’s future needs - just click on the Contact tab to submit your thoughts or suggestions to our email.  Your feedback will be considered at a future committee meeting, and our aim is to ensure collaborative community input.

Having a direct conduit to Federation Council gives us leverage to put forward projects where we need its support.  The diverse skills of our committee members gives us the ability to liaise closely with our local government, and when necessary lobby our state or federal governments.

Seeking grant funds is always at the forefront of being able to complete projects that benefit our community, and this will be an ongoing pursuit for the association's committee.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and gather - the Bpangerang and Wiradjuri people.  We also acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in this area, and we extend that respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
